Darwin, Palmerston & rural Flea pest control

About fleas in the Northern Territory

Although fleas are a year-round problem in Darwin and most of the Northern Territory, they’re more common during the wet season. Flea species found in Australia include the Cat Flea, Dog Flea, and the Bird Flea. Cat Fleas attach themselves to both cats and dogs. They’re approximately 1-2 mm in length and reddish-brown in colour. They have long legs. This makes it easier for them to jump. Dog fleas thrive on the blood of many mammals, especially cats and dogs. They are also known to bite humans occasionally. Dog fleas are dark brown to black in colour. Once they feed on a victim, they appear reddish-black in colour. Bird fleas are brown in colour and they spread easily from one bird to another. Bird fleas multiply quickly in hen houses and bird nests. Once birds move away from their nests, these fleas invade your home or office in search of human hosts.

Fleas attach themselves to pets, clothing, shoes and bags, and hitch a ride with you. They cause flea allergy dermatitis in pets and rashes in humans. These parasites can also transmit nasty tapeworm infections to your pet. That’s why it’s important to routinely inspect your home for parasites and implement a good pest control program to keep your premises safe.

Very friendly and professional. Steve and Tyler were wonderful, after talking to both of them I had no hesitation in leaving keys etc with them & the responsibility of locking the house & yard when they left.
